Rock Inn, Lake Hughes, California

Pulled the bike out today and headed for the Rock Inn. I passed through the California Poppy Reserve on the way.The Antelope Valley California Poppy State Reserve is a state-protected reserve land located in the rural west side of the Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County, 15 miles west of Lancaster. The reserve is at an elevation ranging from 2600 to 3000 feet above sea level in the Mojave Desert climate zone.
The hillsides are blindingly bright orange, with goldfields adding swaths of yellow. Most of the poppies are blooming on the south sides of the hills, but the north slopes have more of a variety of flowers such as owl's clover, forget-me-nots, wild onion, silver puffs, and red maids among poppies and goldfields.Old gas station located at Tree Points. For almost 80 years the Rock Inn has served travelers lucky enough to find their way to the historic location on Elizabeth Lake Road in Lake Hughes, CA. Built in 1929 on the main roadway between Los Angeles and Bakersfield, it was a favorite hideaway retreat for many movie stars in the early days of Hollywood. The huge rock fireplace still warms guests on chilly days and three rustic rooms are available for rent even today. This bike was out front and was getting an amazing crowd checking it out.It is powered by a Rotax 990cc motor.
